QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
What does my money go to when I include the Danish Red Cross in my will?
By making a bequest to the Red Cross, you help help people in your local area who need extra support.
If you choose to bequeath to the Red Cross, we would be extremely grateful. Every donation can make a difference in our work. And we will ensure that your legacy will help where it will do the most good.
What can I bequeath to the Red Cross?
You can decide for yourself (within the rules of inheritance law) what or how much you want to bequeath to the Red Cross. We would be happy to receive any contributions that can strengthen our aid work abroad and at home.
For example, choose whether you want to bequeath a specific amount, a portion of your total assets, or your entire assets.
You can also choose for the Red Cross to inherit the remaining amount after the heirs have received their inheritance, or your house, apartment, allotment garden or other items such as a car, furniture and art.
Can I bequeath to specific parts of the Red Cross' work?
Yes, you can choose to bequeath to specific efforts or activities. These could be activities such as The tour service, as a provider of tours for seniors with limited networks, our activity Visiting Friends for the Mentally Vulnerable so that visiting friends have the opportunity to experience some things together, you can also choose to support one of our network houses or something else that you are particularly interested in.
If you do not wish to give your inheritance to a specific purpose or project, we will assess where the money will be most beneficial in our work. You can read more about the different offers and activities we offer. here.
Can I consider both the Danish Red Cross and my heirs?
Yes, you can. In some cases, it can actually be a financial advantage for your heirs if you also bequeath the Red Cross. If you bequeath the Red Cross with 30% of your assets, the Red Cross can pay the inheritance tax for your relatives. The relatives will therefore receive A BIGGER INHERITANCE because you also bequeath the Red Cross than if you bequeathed the entire amount to them. Your relatives' net inheritance will be larger because they will not have to pay the high taxes - and at the same time you support the good cause
The 30% rule
As a charitable organization, the Red Cross is exempt from paying taxes to the state on your inheritance. At the same time, it can be a financial advantage for your heirs if you consider the Red Cross with a minimum of 30% in your will. If you choose to bequeath to the Red Cross, we will provide a grant of up to DKK 5000 to create or prepare a regular will.
