From the outside, the little white house looks quiet and peaceful, but as you step inside, it is buzzing with life, chatter and laughter.

In the hallway, people line up to get in so they can greet everyone they know, while the house's volunteers diligently hand out plates of cake to everyone who passes by.

The windows and walls are decorated with red and white balloons, and there is no doubt that this is a day of celebration.

The Kastruplund Network House is reopening after months of renovation, and both volunteers and users are happy to be back.

Nordea Foundation and Copenhagen Airport have contributed financial support that has made it possible to renovate the building, so that it is now ready for volunteers and users to once again do everything from creative workshops on Wednesdays to communal dining on Sundays.

The network house creates security and togetherness

The opening was kicked off with a speech from Tårnby's mayor, Allan S. Andersen, who subsequently moved around and talked to those in attendance.

Among them was Winnie, who has been a volunteer at the Network House for three years and is also on the board of Kastruplund. She is the coordinator of the Sunday lunch and is responsible for cooking, socializing and cleaning up every other Sunday.

She said that the house provides users with a social network, and that many come to the house on regular days.

– They need to have a place where they can meet and talk to someone, because some of them may not have others, she says.

According to Winnie, the reopening means that users can meet again in a safe environment and hopefully feel less lonely.

“Coming here brings a positive vibe to a bad day”

Several of the house's users also showed up for the reopening. Among them was Carl, who first came to the house ten years ago – a year after it opened. He uses the Network House to have a cup of coffee and a good chat.

- Many different people come along that you would not otherwise have met., he says.

Marianne has also been a part of the Network House for the past 10 years and now helps with the Sunday lunch. She hopes that the house will recover after the reopening, and she looks forward to meeting everyone she knows.

- When you live alone, you have to go out into the world, and there are many who have been here for many years., she says.

One of the newest users is Lasse, who has only been using the Network House for a couple of months. He has already become a regular visitor on Wednesdays and finds it nice to hang out with the others and have a chat over a cup of coffee.

- Here you can have nice company instead of being lonely. It gives a positive breath on a bad day to come here, says Lasse.

It is now possible again to use the Kastruplund Network House, which is an active community in Kastrup for adults of different ages and backgrounds who miss more relationships and networks in their lives.
