Family camp in the Red Cross Capital

This summer we will be holding two family camps for the vulnerable families we work with and for at Red Cross Hovedstaden.

The basic idea behind the family camps is to strengthen the family network, give them positive experiences together and to create a space of peace, security and community. Everyone should leave with an experience of having been on holiday, and have something to talk about after the summer holidays. Something that many of the children do not otherwise have.

Meals at the camp are an important part of the community, and therefore we are looking for volunteers for our kitchen team, who together are responsible for the meals at the camp. We expect to have 15 families at each camp. The camp takes place over 5 days either in week 27 or week 30 in South Zealand at a secondary school right by the sea.

You will be part of a volunteer team with approximately 12-14 other volunteers, where there will be approximately 5 of you on the kitchen team with a volunteer kitchen manager.

Why volunteer on the kitchen team?

  • You will help create unforgettable dining experiences for families who need a much-needed break from everyday life.
  • You will become part of a cozy and fun kitchen team with other volunteers, where the DJ role takes turns, and where you together create the framework for the meals.
  • It is an obvious opportunity to do an important piece of volunteer work for a limited period of time.
  • You are guaranteed to sleep well the week after camp 😉

What are your role and tasks as a kitchen volunteer?

  • Your most important task is to prepare the camp's delicious meals together with the kitchen team and the families.
  • To create a lot of excitement, curiosity and joy by making good dishes.
  • To create a framework, space and opportunity for children, young people and parents to help in the kitchen. Patience is therefore a virtue at a family camp 🙂

We are looking for you as…

  • Passionate about cooking for many people and using the meal as a gathering point for positive experiences.
  • Has a smile on his face and is good at keeping spirits high – even when there is a rush leading up to mealtime.
  • Is patient and has an understanding of different food cultures.
  • Is keen to collaborate with other volunteers and be part of a team.

What is expected?

  • You can schedule a few meetings during the spring to meet with the other kitchen volunteers and make a plan together.
  • You can participate in a whole family camp for 5-6 days either in week 27 or 30 in the summer of 2026.
  • If you do not already have a food hygiene course, we will pay for you to take one. It is taken online and takes approximately 3 hours.
