What is a Safety Call?

Safety Call, which has existed since 2001, is an activity in the Senior Area of the Danish Red Cross Capital.

The activity is aimed at single senior citizens with limited social networks who are not sick enough to receive daily home care. To reduce the fear of falling, getting injured in some other way or having passed away without being discovered, we offer a daily call. A call that gives peace of mind to the elderly and means a lot when you don't have that many people to share your everyday life with.

If our volunteer callers call their resident in vain, they contact a hotline. This is tasked with finding out what has happened to the resident and, if necessary, sending home care or the police out to check on the elderly person.

Your role as team leader:

  • Talking to new, interested citizens and introducing them to the activity
  • Recruiting and introducing new volunteers
  • To care for and support the volunteers
  • Matching the volunteer lowers with the senior citizens
  • To hold follow-up conversations with both volunteers and citizens to ensure that the calls are working as they should and to assist with any challenges
  • To coordinate temporary cover for the volunteers who are less able during holidays/off

You will be part of a volunteer management team that together ensures that the activity runs smoothly. This includes administrative work, relationship work between volunteers, citizens and the Capital Red Cross, and sparring with each other.

As a team leader, it is important that you:

  • Is committed, stable and reliable
  • Is dutiful and complies with agreements
  • Has human insight and understanding
  • Are good at communicating – both with volunteers, seniors and your colleagues
  • Is open-minded and positive, and is good at meeting many different people

As a team leader, you should expect to spend approximately 10-15 hours per month. Good collaboration within the team is prioritized and we can help each other be flexible during periods when private life requires more time.

What can we offer you?

  • Flexible, responsible and meaningful work
  • The joy of making a big difference among our elderly, single citizens
  • Courses and participation in networks with other team leaders, activity leaders and volunteers
  • A rewarding and challenging volunteer job
  • Committed volunteer colleagues
  • Support, guidance and development
  • To gain experience in recruiting and managing volunteers
  • A strong professional organization to support you in your task

A Red Cross mobile phone is provided so you can work wherever it suits you best – at home, at the Red Cross office or a third location.

If this sounds like something for you, we look forward to hearing from you, and are happy to answer questions or meet for a non-binding conversation if you are interested in hearing more.
