As a volunteer in the activity Good Start to Life You will have the opportunity to be a safe support for families with children aged 0-2. You will typically meet with a family for a few hours a week for a period of six months – and this will happen at times that suit you.
How can you make a difference?
As a volunteer, you act as a support person who helps parents find security and strength in everyday life. This could be:
Everyday support: Help with creating structure, going on outings, shopping or participating in activities such as baby rhythms.
Network and opportunities: Introduction to local offers, help in connection with the child's transition to daycare or practical guidance in the parenting role.
Conversations and presence: Listen, advise and provide support in the small and large challenges that arise in the transition to parenthood.
You do not offer childcare or domestic help, but are there for the parents based on a help-to-self-help approach.
Who are the families?
The families in Good Start to Life are very different, but what they have in common is that they are experiencing a challenging transition to parenthood. These may be practical, financial or emotional challenges. Some are solo parents, single or have a limited network.
Who are you?
To become a volunteer parent support, the most important thing is that you want to listen, be present and meet people without prejudice. You must be responsible and keep your agreements. We will match you with a family where you can make a real difference with your experience and skills. Before you make your final commitment, we will arrange a meeting between you and the family so that you can see if it feels like the right match for both parties.
As a general rule, you commit to a six-month program, but by agreement it can be extended, or you can be matched with a new family if you wish to continue your volunteer commitment.
What do you get out of it?
The experience of making a meaningful difference for a family in need of support.
New relationships and insight into other people's life situations.
A community with other committed volunteers.
The opportunity to create good experiences together with families.
Support and sparring from an activity leader if you encounter challenges.
