Volunteer portraits
The Red Cross Capital's volunteers make a huge difference to a wide range of people, and the story of our local, social work is therefore also a story about the people who voluntarily dedicate their time and energy to the Red Cross. Here you can read a series of volunteer portraits that tell the story of our work, told in the volunteers' own words.

Melanie is a volunteer manager at our thrift store on Istedgade, where she has not only helped create a beautiful and well-functioning store, but also turned the store into a local gathering point.
'I'm so impressed that after a relatively long working life, you think that I'm not finished passing something on to other people. I think that's very commendable. And the commitment and enthusiasm that you can feel in the volunteers, I think is exceptional.'

In December 2024, Susanne, Julie and Anders from Danske Bank chose to spend their CSR hours in a Red Cross store.

Laura and Anni have been walking buddies for a year and a half, but you would think they had been friends for 10 years, the way they laugh, smile, and finish each other's sentences.
'As a volunteer, you are passionate about what you do, and that rubs off on those around you.'
Birgitte Steenbech is 66 years old and lives in Rødovre. She has been a volunteer activity leader in the Senior Café at the Red Cross for about a year, and started almost immediately after she took early retirement. Previously, she was a school teacher for 32 years.
