How do I start as a volunteer?
- You fill out the registration form on this page in order to be contacted by our Match team.
- A volunteer from the Match Team will call you and talk to you about the possibilities of volunteering, so that together you can find the right activity for you.
- You will be put in touch with a volunteer leader who will invite you to a volunteer interview, where you will talk about which role suits you best.
- You are now ready to start your volunteering. We always make sure you dress well for the role.
What should I consider before becoming a volunteer?
It is a good idea to consider whether you have the time and energy to volunteer. In addition, you can also think about what will motivate you in your role as a volunteer, as it is something you will be using your free time for and which should give you good energy.
Depending on the activity you are interested in, there are some professional and personal qualities that are an advantage. If you are considering becoming a visiting friend, it is good, for example, if you have the energy to put another person at the center, and have time to meet regularly. If you want to be a volunteer leader, it can be an advantage to have a flair for coordination and relationship work.

Who do I help as a volunteer?
As a volunteer in the Red Cross Capital, you help make a difference for people who lack networks and support. Our activities are aimed particularly at lonely seniors, vulnerable families with children, the mentally vulnerable and people in acute crisis. Our activities are for people living in Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Tårnby and Dragør Municipality.
How much time do I need to spend as a volunteer?
It depends on how much time you want to spend and which activities you choose.
Many activities are quite flexible when it comes to time usage. Other activities are on fixed days and at fixed times.
What is the age limit for volunteering?
In the Danish Red Cross Capital you must be 15 years old to be a volunteer.
In some of our activities there may be a special age limit (e.g. Dream Agents).
Can I volunteer if I don't speak Danish?
Yes, you can volunteer as an English speaking volunteer in Red Cross Copenhagen.
Will I be prepared to volunteer?
As a volunteer at Red Cross Capital, you will receive training in all our activities. We ensure that volunteers are well prepared for the role.
Some activities require you to attend an introductory course and in other activities you must take basic training (e.g. Samaritan Corps or Victim counseling).
As a newly started volunteer, you can participate in a Welcome meeting, where you will be introduced to the Red Cross Capital.
As a volunteer in the Red Cross, you always have the opportunity to sign up for various courses, which are free of charge. You can see all our courses and events here.

One-to-one relationships

In the Middle of Life
Do you want to offer your company and are you good at listening, being present and providing reassurance?
As a volunteer visitor, you fill an important place in another person's life. Most visitors live with mental health challenges, such as anxiety or depression. Read more here.
As a volunteer exercise buddy, you will have the opportunity to get to know a new person who wants more movement and presence in their everyday life. As a volunteer, you must have the time and desire to meet with your exercise buddy twice a month. Read more here.
As a volunteer conversation buddy, you talk to people who need a chat. We use video because we believe that it is important for a meaningful conversation to be able to see each other.
TalkTogether is just a conversation between two people. One of them might be a little lonely, worried or isolated, and the other is you. You can talk about anything between heaven and earth. Read more here.
Family
As a volunteer parent support in God start på lieft, you will play a special role in a family's life. You will provide support to new parents and families with young children about the parenting role, strengthen the parents' overview and energy in everyday life, and, for example, introduce the family to relevant services in their local area.

As a volunteer in Qnet, you will be matched with a woman who needs help finding her footing again after a breakup with an abusive relationship. You meet about 2-3 times a month and together you find out what you would like to spend your time on. It may be that your match needs a conversation partner, support for meetings with the municipality or her role as a mother.

As a volunteer befriender, you become an important connection for migrants or refugees who lack a network in Denmark. Participants can be individuals, couples or families. As a volunteer, you have knowledge and familiarity with the Danish language, system and culture that the participant can benefit from. You can also point the way to other offers in the city that may be relevant to the participant, or help in connection with jobs and education. You meet about twice a month and you agree with each other where you want to meet and what you want to do together.

Senior
As a visiting friend, you bring presence and joy and therefore have a great importance in another person's everyday life. You are matched with a visitor, whom you visit by appointment - typically every week for 1-2 hours. What you do is up to you. For example, you can drink coffee, talk about the week's events or go for a walk. The most important thing is that the meeting between you is based on humanity.

As a gift, you will have great significance for an elderly person who wants movement and presence in their everyday life.
We match you with an older person who we think you would be a good fit with. Of course, we also take into account when and how often you can volunteer as a gift. Whether you want to be a gift for a few months or over a longer period of time, you will bring great joy.

As a Movement Friend in a Movement Community, you become a facilitator and leader in a Movement Community where people with mental vulnerability feel safe to participate.

As a volunteer in Terminal 1, you must have the energy and patience to support other people. You will help support users in establishing or maintaining a life free from abuse. It does not require any special education or experience, but it is expected that you are mature and strong enough to be able to accommodate the users' stories.

Family
Our summer camps are for families who may not have as many opportunities to have experiences during their summer vacations.
As a volunteer at the Red Cross Capital Family Camps, you help make a big difference for families and children in vulnerable positions and give them some good experiences. You will also become part of a unique community of volunteers who together create the camp for the first time.

In the Family Network, families with children have the opportunity to enjoy themselves and get a break from everyday life, while at the same time they can form relationships with other families with children.
As a volunteer in the Family Network, you will have a great impact on families with children with limited social networks. Through communal meals, you and a team of volunteers will have the opportunity to support vulnerable families with children by being present, listening and planning activities that suit the families' wishes and needs.

The Men's Club is an active social community for men over the age of 65.

We are therefore looking for you who would like to join a new voluntary community of nursing home friends who will be well-equipped to be linked to a nursing home and contribute to joint events, walks, coziness and presence.
As a nursing home friend, you will be connected to a nursing home or senior living area, where you will be assigned either every week or every other week.

Senior interviews are a conversation process for people who are in the transition from the business world to retirement life.

You can volunteer in the Tour Service as a tour leader or driver. The tour leader plans the tours and is also responsible for practical matters such as booking tables and helping participants on and off the bus.
The driver is responsible for driving and planning the route, including pick-up and drop-off. To become a volunteer driver in Turtjenesten, you must have a valid driver's license for passenger cars. You will come for a test drive with one of our bus managers, who approves new drivers.

Here and now help is for people who are in more urgent need of help. Your role as a volunteer will depend on the activity. If you want to see the different activities where you can help, click on the categories below.
As a volunteer in Victim Counseling, you help offer personal or telephone conversations to victims, witnesses and relatives in connection with violent and shocking experiences such as accidents, crime and traffic accidents.
As a volunteer in Victim Counseling, you must be robust, have empathy and good communication skills. It is also an advantage to have a relevant professional or experiential background. You must be 28 years of age or older to be a victim counselor.

As a Red Cross Samaritan, you attend many of the capital's sporting events, concerts and other events, where we provide qualified first aid to the participants.
A Red Cross Samaritan does not have to work in the healthcare system on a daily basis. We are just as happy to see teachers, craftsmen and bus drivers as Samaritans as doctors, nurses and rescuers. Our different backgrounds and approaches to the patient are one of our great strengths.

Care Center Eirsgaard is an offer and place to stay for homeless people who have been discharged from the hospital to the streets.
As a volunteer at the care center, you can help support patients who have been discharged from the hospital after treatment for a physical illness, but who are not yet well enough to be alone. The support takes the form of care, conversation and treatment.

The Red Cross Women's Shelter is a shelter for vulnerable women, giving them a temporary place to live.
As a volunteer, your most important task is to provide care and social interaction to women in a vulnerable position. You will also collaborate with the permanent staff on practical tasks, for example, in connection with dinner and cleaning.
There is also the opportunity to help support various activities such as knitting café, gardening and yoga.

Well underway is an offer for homeless women at the Red Cross's Women's Shelter, who will be moving from the shelter to their own home.

It is important that you as a volunteer demonstrate presence and inclusiveness, and that you are able to listen and bring the vulnerability of other women close to your life.
