Always locally present
At the Danish Red Cross, we work to create meaningful communities for mentally vulnerable adults, lonely elderly people and families with limited networks in Copenhagen and the surrounding area.
Who is the Red Cross Capital?
Red Cross Hovedstaden has existed since 1917 and is the largest local branch of the Red Cross in Denmark.
We are 3.500 volunteers who put their time and energy into more than 45 different activities for the benefit and joy of the most vulnerable in our local area.
Red Cross Capital covers Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Tårnby and Dragør municipalities.
Our ambition is that the socially disadvantaged in the capital should have the opportunity to join the communities they want. They should have the support they need – not least during difficult transitions in life, where resources are particularly scarce.
We work based on the 7 fundamental Red Cross principles:
- Humanity
- Impartiality
- Neutrality
- Independence
- Volunteering
- Unit
- Public benefit

The special challenges of the big city
The Red Cross is always present. And the Red Cross Capital is present in the Capital, where the social challenges are of a special nature. Here there are many people with loneliness, abuse and mental vulnerability in their lives, and here there are many people who do not have their own home.
Far too many people do not feel like they are part of society, and many have difficulty making their daily lives work. It is often during difficult transitions in life, when people have the fewest resources, that they need the most help to find their footing again.
The target group for Red Cross Hovedstaden's work is adults, seniors and families who experience limited networks and need support. We particularly aim to help:
- Elderly and adults with loneliness in their lives
- People with a lack of networks and few relationships
- Children in vulnerable families
- Women exposed to violence
- People without a home they can call their own

Solutions in collaboration with the outside world
The social challenges in a capital city are too complex for the Capital Red Cross to solve alone. Therefore, we will create solutions in close collaboration with both public and private partners – and together with the Danish Red Cross and the Youth Red Cross.
If your workplace or company is interested in collaborating with us, you can contact us view this page.
