Røde Kors Hovedstaden

Red Cross Copenhagen has existed since 1917 and is the largest local branch under the Danish Red Cross. We have 3,500 volunteers who invest their time and energy in more than 50 different activities to benefit and bring joy to the most vulnerable in our local area. Red Cross Copenhagen covers the municipalities of Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Tårnby, and Dragør.

Our ambition is to ensure that socially vulnerable individuals in the capital region have the opportunity to be part of the communities they desire. They should receive the support they need, especially during the challenging transitions in life when resources are particularly scarce.

Unique Challenges of the City

The Red Cross is always present, and Red Cross Copenhagen is present in the Capital Region, where social challenges have a unique character. Many people here experience loneliness, substance abuse, and mental vulnerability, and there are also many people some do not have a stable place to live.

Far too many people don’t feel like they belong in society, and many struggle to make their daily lives work. Often, it’s during the challenging transitions in life when people have the fewest resources that they need the most help to regain their footing.

The target group for Red Cross Copenhagen’s work is adults and families who have limited social networks and require support. We particularly focus our help towards:

  • Elderly individuals and adults experiencing loneliness in their lives
  • People with few social connections and relationships
  • Children in vulnerable families
  • Women who has experienced domestic violence
  • Individuals without a place to call home
Collaborative Solutions with our Surroundings
The social challenges in a capital city are too complex for Red Cross Copenhagen to solve on its own. Therefore, we aim to create solutions in close collaboration with both public and private partners, along with the Danish Red Cross and Youth Red Cross.
