The journey towards find a permanent home varies from person to person. The Home for You initiative seeks to actively help each person in their search for a home based on their specific situation, needs and preferences. If you need help finding a place to live, we’ll match you with a housing mentor. A housing mentor is a volunteer, who can help you with your home search. This might involve researching and helping you figure out where to look for a home as well as what you can afford. They might also go with you to view potential houses and are available to talk to you about your daily concerns.

The support will always be cathered to your needs and preferences. We’ll talk to you to see if our program is the right fit for you and if not, we’ll help you seek support elsewhere.

  • You’ll meet with the housing mentor 2-4 times a month, and you both decide where and when.
  • You can get help with housing applications, budgeting, rental contracts, and moving, among other things.
  • You can also talk to the housing mentor about topics other than housing search.
  • The housing mentor is bound by confidentiality and does not receive payment for meeting with you.

Who’s behind the initiative?

Home for you is a 3-year long Red Cross project funded by Bikubefonden. Home for You is built upon a pilot project, which was a partnership between the Red Cross, the Youth Red Cross and the Home for All Alliance. It ran from 2018 until 2021 and was funded by Bikubefonden, Oak Foundation and the Red Cross.

The goal behind the project is to help as many young people as possible, on the brink of homeleless, find a stable home. The solutions may vary depending on each young person’s circumstances. We also continue to explore how new forms of volunteer engagement and community involvement may help prevent homelessness.

We’ll start with a non-binding conversation about your situation and what you need. If you feel that Home for You is a good fit for you, and we agree, we’ll find a volunteer for you.

We currently do not accept English-speaking volunteers for this activity
